Dear Fellow Activist:

You are invited to a special housing forum with Jeff Halper, co founder and director of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolition. The forum will take place on Wednesday, October 21st at St. Mary’s Church: 521 West 126th Street  (between Amsterdam and Old Broadway) from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Halper has organized and led non-violent direct action and civil disobedience against Israel’s occupation policies and authorities since ICAHD was established in 1997. In August, 2008, Jeff was one of 44 activists from 17 nations who successfully sailed from Cyprus to Gaza aboard two fishing boats in defiance of Israel's blockade. Jeff is a professor of anthropology, distinguished author and internationally acclaimed speaker. In 2006, he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by the American Friends Service Committee, along with Palestinian intellectual and activist Dr. Ghassan Andoni.
 Halper
Dr. Halper’s published works includes, "Obstacles to Peace: A Re-Framing of the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict" (published by ICAHD, revised in 2009) and "An Israeli in Palestine: Resisting Dispossession, Redeeming Israel" (Pluto Press, 2008). Realizing early on that the Israeli government did not intend for the Oslo peace process of the 1990's to lead to recognition of Palestinian rights, Dr. Halper developed the “Matrix of Control,” a framework that accurately predicted the course the Israeli Occupation would take as the Oslo process collapsed and Israel continued to build settlements, settler-only highways, and the Separation Wall.  Jeff was an early voice, warning about the development of Israeli apartheid policies in the Occupied Territories, a subject about which he frequently speaks.

In pursuit of a just peace in Israel/Palestine based on human rights and international law, Jeff combines grassroots activism with advocacy within Israel and abroad. For additional information, visit: http://www.icahd.org(ICAHD-Israel
